Quantum Bridge Optical Access System Helps Deliver "Speed of Light" Broadband to Baltimore

BALTIMORE, July 12 -- Quantum Bridge Communications Inc., a developer of optical access networking solutions, announced the activation of a large deployment of passive optical network (PON) architecture for delivering flexible, high-speed services to business customers. Through the use of the Quantum Bridge Optical Access System, Comcast Business Communications (CBC) has enhanced the existing fiber infrastructure to support the economical delivery of fiber-based services to business customers of all sizes. The company made the announcement at this year's National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) taking place all this week in Baltimore.
The activation of live customer traffic in the Baltimore market represents the first in a series of deployments, which will ultimately include similar build-outs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Michigan later this year. With this network now fully operational, CBC is able to deliver Internet, data, and voice services to business customers in and around the metropolitan Baltimore area.
"We continue to be impressed with the Quantum Bridge product portfolio and the professional services team the company has assembled around it to design and deliver optical access networks," said Steve Cannella, Comcast Business Communications' vice president of network planning and engineering. "The technology allows us to deliver broadband services directly to our business customers cost effectively over fiber."
