3D-Printing Method Enables Microscale Spectrometer

Researchers from the University of Stuttgart have developed a microscale spectrometer that can be fabricated through femtosecond direct laser writing. The angle-insensitive 3D-printed miniature spectrometer has a direct separated spatial-spectral response, and a volume of less than 100 × 100 × 300 μm3. According to the researchers’ paper, the team could fabricate the spectrometer directly on a miniature image sensor as the tip of a distal chip endoscope, which would allow examination of previously inaccessible regions of the body with extremely high bending radii....Read full article

    spectrometer
A kind of spectrograph in which some form of detector, other than a photographic film, is used to measure the distribution of radiation in a particular wavelength region.
    3d printing
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), is a manufacturing process that builds three-dimensional objects layer by layer from a digital model. This technology allows the creation of complex and customized structures that would be challenging or impossible with traditional manufacturing methods. The process typically involves the following key steps: Digital design: A three-dimensional digital model of the object is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This...
