SANTA ROSA, Calif., Sept. 30 -- Advanced Digital Optics (ADO), Brillian Corp. and OCLI, a wholly owned subsidiary of JDS Uniphase, announced they have jointly developed a rear-projection television (RPTV) light engine based on Brillian’s LCoS Gen II microdisplay panels and ADO’s UltreX-3 color management kernel. The on-screen contrast ratio of the light engine with panels has reached 2500:1, exceeding the known contrast level achieved with any other liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) microdisplay technology. OCLI is the licensee of ADO’s UltreX technology and provides exclusive manufacturing, marketing and sales support for the product line. "We believe tThe UltreX-3 light engine with Brillian panels offers contrast performance and uniformity levels that make the on-screen experience much more vibrant than competing technologies," said Michael Newell, director of product development at ADO. "With this new level of performance, we expect to quickly set the standard for microdisplay-based light engines."
