Accurate Readings of Smaller Mammogram Files Could Lead to Telemedicine Advances

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., and TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 20 -- Researchers from Purdue University and the University of South Florida have developed a way of compressing digitized mammogram files that, while containing only two percent of the original file's information, can be read more accurately by radiologists looking for cancer. The scientists say the techniques could lead to better mammogram readings for people who live in remote areas and the ability to use telemedicine to make a variety of diagnoses.
