All-Glass Fiber Optic Sensor Measures Force on Miniature Objects

A team of researchers has designed a tiny fiber optic force sensor, approximately equal in diameter to a human hair, capable of measuring extremely slight forces exerted by small objects. The light-based sensor is made of silica glass formed into a cylinder.     An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale.
