BERLIN, Sept. 4, 2019 — Berliner Glas welcomed 22 apprentices on Sept. 2, 16 of whom will work in Berlin and six at SwissOptic AG in Heerbrugg, Switzerland. Berliner Glas welcomes new apprentices to its Berlin office. Courtesy of Berliner Glas. Of the apprentices, four have decided to pursue a dual study program in design/production and business administration. Ten have started industrial and technical training as precision opticians, and two have started as machining technicians. Currently, the Berliner Glas Group has 34 apprentices and dual program students on staff. The application and selection...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESSTMicroelectronics Makes Metasurface Tech from Metalenz Available to Consumers: Week in Brief: 06/10/22S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that ON Semiconductor will replace IPG Photonics in the S&P 500. Enter Class 1 laser products — lasers that are so safe that the user doesn’t require specific laser safety training or protective eyewear. Some precautions still exist, though. When purchasing an industrial laser system, the astute buyer will look for a Class 1 laser product — a system where the laser beam hazard is completely enclosed and there is no potential laser...Photonics HandbookFluorescence Lifetime Imaging: Choosing the Best Approach: Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), which measures the spatial distribution of the fluorescence decay, can be achieved either in the time or in the frequency domain. Each approach exhibits advantages and disadvantages, depending on the type of light detector and acquisition method employed. The term fluorescence is often applied as a synonym for photoluminescence, although luminescence actually covers fluorescence and phosphorescence. Both of these terms describe the process of...Photonics HandbookWHITEPAPERSIntroduction to Optical ReplicationOptical replication is a method of re-producing a reflective surface with the identical surface figure and optical performance of a master part.
