Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) allows researchers to learn about molecular-level interactions in live specimens. The process yields more robust results than intensity-based imaging techniques, and it’s been part of researchers’ toolboxes for around a decade. It also holds great promise for surgeons and other clinicians because it can distinguish nondestructively between diseased and normal tissue. But FLIM also is expensive and difficult to use. When we asked a panel of researchers and industry experts to comment on this powerful technique, we expected rich and informative answers. And we certainly weren’t disappointed.
