The Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, CLEO 2022, will be held at California’s San Jose McEnery Convention Center May 15-20. The event will feature more than 2000 technical sessions, an exhibit hall showcasing advancements in laser science, and an exhibition for applied research and commercial applications. A hybrid format will enable virtual attendees to tune in to technical sessions, plenaries, and show floor programs. Highlights of the event include the exhibit hall, special sessions on topics such as deep sensing and superresolution, plenary sessions from top researchers and technologists, special symposia covering the latest in ultrafast mid-IR laser sources and applications, topological lasers, and more. The conference kicks off on Sunday, May 15, with a check-in and short courses, followed by the start of the technical program on Monday. The exhibition hall opens on Tuesday, allowing attendees to network with top and up-and-coming companies that will be displaying and demonstrating cutting-edge technology. Plenaries, poster sessions, and workshops also begin on Tuesday. Among the plenary speakers are Dana Z. Anderson of ColdQuanta; Hui Cao of Yale University; Peter J. Delfyett of CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics; and Michal Lipson of Columbia University. In a talk titled “The Wedding of Maxwell and Schrödinger,” Anderson will discuss the broad applications of laser cooling, including computing, sensing, and processing. In “Seeing Through Walls and Around Corners: Shaping the Flow of Light in Complex Media,” Cao will discuss recent advancements that enable optical imaging or sending information through turbid media via wavefront shaping and phase recording techniques. Delfyett will give a presentation on “Ultrafast Laser Science and Technology Using Semiconductor Diode Lasers.” He will review the underlying physics of ultrafast, high-power pulse generation in diode lasers and discuss how users can circumvent the inherent limitations of physics to achieve new levels of performance. Tutorial speakers will cover a diverse range of technologies and trends in three broad tracks: Fundamental Science, Science and Innovations, and Applications and Technology. Symposia sessions will cover cutting-edge topics, such as metaphotonics, two-photon absorption, space-time optics, light control in complex media, and optical frequency combs in time-variant photonics. Each special symposium will feature several presenters. The event’s exhibition hall will feature companies and organizations from around the world, offering live, hands-on demonstrations of the latest products and technologies.
