Continental AG Acquires Auto Lidar Division of ASC

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., March 28, 2016 — Mobility, transport and processing technology firm Continental AG will acquire the ASCar division — which develops lidar systems for the automotive industry — of Advanced Scientific Concepts LLC (ASC). With the acquisition, Continental plans to mass-produce flash lidars at an affordable price to support the commercial automotive industry. Ladar, an acronym of laser detection and ranging, uses laser light for detection of speed, altitude, direction and range; it is often called laser radar.
