Rick P. Friedman has been named senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Ultratech, a San Jose, Calif., supplier of photolithography systems used to manufacture semiconductors and nanotechnology devices. Friedman was formerly vice president, worldwide sales and field operations at Asyst Technologies Inc., a provider of integrated automation solutions for the semiconductor manufacturing industry. He has more than 18 years experience in the semiconductor equipment capital equipment industry and has held executive positions at major semiconductor equipment manufacturers, including eight years at Lam Research Corp. . . . Jim Elliott has been promoted to vice president of operations at Fusion UV Systems, a member company of Spectris plc, a Surrey, England-based supplier of ultraviolet (UV) curing systems and UV-based process solutions. Elliott's 17 years of experience in high- and low-volume manufacturing environments included two years of operations and total quality management consulting and four months in Japan studying Japanese quality control techniques.
