Electrically Driven Topological Laser Bypasses Manufacturing Imperfections

SINGAPORE, Feb. 19, 2020 — Researchers from Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) and the University of Leeds (UL) have created what they believe to be the first electrically driven topological laser. The use of topologically protected photonic modes enables this laser to efficiently bypass manufacturing defects as well as corners. In the 1980s, scientists found that electrons flowing in certain materials had “topological features”; that is, they could flow around corners or imperfections without scattering or leaking. In collaboration with material scientists from UL, the NTU Singapore...Read full article

    optoelectronics
Optoelectronics is a branch of electronics that focuses on the study and application of devices and systems that use light and its interactions with different materials. The term "optoelectronics" is a combination of "optics" and "electronics," reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of this field. Optoelectronic devices convert electrical signals into optical signals or vice versa, making them crucial in various technologies. Some key components and applications of optoelectronics include: ...
