Fiber-Based Solar Cell Earns Patent

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., April 12, 2010 — A promising new solar cell, developed out of Wake Forest University, has received its first formal patent from the European Patent Office. The new fiber-based solar cells can double the energy production of today’s flat cells at a fraction of the cost, according to Dr. David Carroll, director of Wake Forest’s Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials, where the fiber cell was developed. “It comes at a pretty high price to be green. This device can make a huge difference,” Carroll said. The patent on the technology has been licensed to FiberCell...Read full article
