GRESHAM, Ore., Dec. 4 -- Fujitsu Ltd. announced it will cease production operations at its Gresham semiconductor manufacturing facility, Fujitsu Microelectronics Inc. (FMI), by the end of January 2002, and will close the plant and liquidate its assets. The closure reflects the continuing slump in the worldwide semiconductor market, as well as Fujitsu's intent to consolidate production of flash memory at Fujitsu-AMD Semiconductor Limited (FASL), its joint-venture manufacturing facility in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan. This is part of the global restructuring of its semiconductor factories....Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesMetrology Center Adds to Growing Dutch Photonics EcosystemThe Netherlands’ Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC) has launched a dedicated metrology program, aimed at developing design-for-test methodologies and new product characterization and...Photonics Spectra February 2023 IssueFermilab Details Photon Detection, 3D Integrated Sensing EffortsFermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) scientists are leading a pair of photonics-related projects under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DoE) Accelerate Innovations...Photonics.com 3/26/2024Laser-based Method Offers Alternative to Sandblasting in ManufacturingIn the past, sandblasting has been a necessary part of production in a number of industrial processes.
