Diagnostics firm Hologic Inc. saw its revenues increase 2 percent to $625 million in its second fiscal quarter, powered largely by its 3-D mammography technology. Breast health revenues grew 8.5 percent to $238.7 million, while skeletal health revenues rose 4.7 percent to $23.5 million. The company attributed the increases to growing sales of bone densitometry and 3-D mammography systems. Partially offsetting these increases was an expected overall sales decline of 2-D systems. Meanwhile, diagnostics revenues fell 1.9 percent to $290.8 million and gynecological surgical revenues...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESJi-Xin Cheng Receives 2019 Ellis R. These articles will provide the tools optics designers need to tailor their designs to the appropriate manufacturing process and to optimize the cost of component fabrication.Aspheric surfaces are powerful tools that combine the optical corrections of multiple lenses into a single element (Figure 1) and affect performance in ways that spherical optics cannot. For example,...Photonics HandbookFluorescence Lifetime Imaging: Choosing the Best Approach: Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), which measures the spatial distribution of the fluorescence decay, can be achieved either in the time or in the frequency domain. Each approach exhibits advantages and disadvantages, depending on the type of light detector and acquisition method employed. The term fluorescence is often applied as a synonym for photoluminescence, although luminescence actually covers fluorescence and phosphorescence. Both of these terms describe the process of...Photonics HandbookMachine Vision Cameras: Making the Right Selection: Improvements and affordability have broadened the use of vision systems for inspection, but several factors should be considered before making a purchase.Technological advances have resulted in new, higher-quality sensors that enable machine vision cameras to deliver greater features and functionality at a lower cost than ever before. These factors...Photonics HandbookUltraviolet Reflectance Imaging: Applications: Ultraviolet imaging has long been thought to be difficult and awkward by many photographers because of the difficulties encountered when using photographic film in the UV band. Digital ultraviolet imaging is becoming increasingly affordable and lends itself to a number of interesting applications that have been largely overlooked, and digital sensors are available that span the UV spectrum from 200 to 400 nm.Reflected-ultraviolet imaging is a rather mysterious area of the imaging field. There is relatively little actual UV imagery to be found on the Internet or in the literature compared to near-infrared...Photonics HandbookWHITEPAPERSHigh-Speed Imaging in Biomedical Microfluidic ResearchThis whitepaper discusses multiple case studies when Phantom cameras have assisted in the advancement of microfluidic and cellular research.Photonics.com 11/17/2020Camera-based Products - Benefits of an ISO13485:2016-Certified SupplierWhat advantages does a supplier certified according to the medical device standard ISO 13485:2016 offer to a manufacturer of camera-based medical products?
