Imaging System Enables Early Detection of Bowel Cancer

KONGENS LYNGBY, Denmark, Aug. 26, 2021 — An international research team called PROSCOPE has developed a multimodal optical imaging system capable of detecting bowel cancer at an early stage. The system, which is designed to be fitted to an endoscope, can give clinicians the ability to zoom in on areas of the intestine identified for inspection to create detail-rich 3D images. The system enables observations with conventional white light in a camera and then switches to more advanced photonic and optical imaging techniques to enable observations at the microscopic and molecular levels; at this point, further analyses of the...Read full article

    optical coherence tomography
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique used in medical and scientific fields to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biological tissues. It provides detailed, real-time, and three-dimensional visualization of tissue structures at the micrometer scale. OCT is particularly valuable in ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and various other medical specialties. Here are the key features and components of optical coherence tomography: Principle of...
    label-free
Label-free refers to a technique or method that does not require the use of additional labels, tags, or markers to detect or identify specific components or entities. In various scientific and technological applications, labeling often involves attaching fluorescent dyes, radioactive isotopes, or other markers to molecules, cells, or structures of interest. However, in label-free approaches, detection or analysis is performed without the need for these additional labels. Common applications...
