Laser, holograms could expedite sample analysis

Researchers have developed a method that uses a near-infrared laser and holograms to rapidly position nanoscale particles. The noninvasive technique, known as rapid electrokinetic patterning, holds promise for the development of lab-on-a-chip technology for the analysis of biological samples in the medical and environmental fields. The tool could enable the design of sensor technologies that move particles to a specific region on an electronic chip for rapid detection and analysis.
