Bees aren’t busy just for the sake of being busy. The constant foraging for pollen by honeybees enables the hive to exist. This industriousness also has been proposed as a means to locate land mines. Trained honeybees have been proposed as a means of detecting land mines, which are estimated to kill up to 20,000 people annually. Some 90 countries are littered with buried antipersonnel mines, which claim thousands of lives each year.
