Like the rest of the world, Japan is experiencing its share of economic setbacks. Despite the recent announcement of a fourth-quarter 2008 decline in gross domestic product at a 12.7 percent annual rate, however, certain segments of the photonics industry appear to be weathering the storm better than most.
