MorphoSys AG of Martinsried/Munich, Germany, a biotechnology company that generates fully human antibodies, has been granted a divisional patent from the European Patent Office stemming from its base HuCAL (Human Combinatorial Antibody Library) patent family. The patent, EP1143006, will capture HuCAL’s modular design at the DNA level to provide solid product claim protection in Europe. The library comprises highly diverse, fully human synthetic antibodies that are engineerable through their modular CDR (clock and data recovery) design.
