NAVAIR Contract

In Chelmsford, Mass., McPherson Inc., a manufacturer of dispersive spectrometers, has been contracted by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) for design and production of a spectral test, calibration and light delivery system. The Spectral Test System (STS) delivers near-contiguous wavelength coverage from the ultraviolet to the long-wave infrared. The system helps to characterize and document the response of sensors to specific wavelengths of light to calibrate their response and to acquire useful data when the spectral sensors are airborne. The STS will help NAVAIR to characterize sensors for...Read full article

    Glossary
    long-wave infrared
Long-wave infrared (LWIR) refers to a specific range of the infrared spectrum. Infrared radiation is divided into three main categories based on wavelength: near-infrared (NIR), mid-wave infrared (MWIR), and long-wave infrared (LWIR). LWIR covers wavelengths typically ranging from about 8 to 15 micrometers (μm). Key points about LWIR: Wavelength range: LWIR corresponds to the longer wavelengths within the infrared spectrum, specifically in the range of 8 to 15 micrometers. These...
