FALLS CHURCH, Va., March 20, 2018 — Global security provider Northrop Grumman Corp. has been awarded a $95 million contract by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM) to develop the first two increments of the Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) system. Northrop Grumman will serve as systems developer and integrator for this 42-month effort. HART is the organization’s next-generation recognition program, replacing the Automated Biometric Identity System (IDENT) built in the 1990s. HART is a more robust system than its predecessor and will...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESPhotonics News: Week in Brief: 10/29/21SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Block MEMS was awarded a $2.6 million contract in support of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate to detect vehicle-borne...Photonics.com 10/29/2021NeoPhotonics Charges Forward in 800G Transceiver Race: Week in Brief: 03/04/22NeoPhotonics Corp. reported that it successfully used its indium phosphide-based coherent receiver and coherent modulators, coupled with its ultranarrow linewidth tunable lasers or distributed...Photonics.com 3/4/2022VIGO Photonics’ IR Sensors Board NASA’s Orion: Week in Brief: 06/16/22III-V Epi, a provider of compound semiconductor wafer foundry services, completed the Innovate UK-funded, SHARK-VECSELs project with the University of Strathclyde. The layer of gases that we breathe also distorts the images formed by telescopes. This means that conventional telescopes of more than a few centimeters in diameter cannot reach the resolution limit set by their optics. To Isaac Newton the problem was clear, and in 1704 he realized the effects of atmospheric turbulence on image formation. Just as heat waves shimmering above a hot patch of ground can distort our...Photonics HandbookInfrared Spectral Selection: It Begins with the Detector: An IR imaging system employing a narrow spectral band brings hidden images to light, broadening IR imaging’s applications.Spectral selection is a powerful tool that enhances conventional imaging tremendously. Rather, we guess a...Photonics HandbookLaser Measurement Systems: Best Practices: When purchasing a laser, learning how to apply, troubleshoot, and evaluate that device is very important.Given the pace at which technology advances, there always seems to be a learning curve.
