To make a solid-state qubit, a defect must be inserted into the solid material to control the spin states of the electrons. These quantum defects have the potential to enable integration of quantum information systems with conventional electronic devices.     Acronym for self-aligned polysilicon interconnect N-channel. A metal-gate process that uses aluminum for the metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) gate electrode as well as for signal and power supply connectors.

    A sub-field of photonics that pertains to an electronic device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation.
