PARIS, June 17, 2019 — Opsens Solutions Inc. is partnering with Temai Ingenieros SL, a designer and manufacturer of aeronautical electronics, for the commissioning of an optical-based fuel monitoring system for a major aircraft manufacturer. This agreement comes after more than a year of development and ground testing of an aircraft fuel monitoring system based on Opsens Solutions’ fiber optic sensing technology. The aircraft manufacturer has agreed to proceed with the next phase of testing, which consists of partial flight qualification. This fiber optic fuel monitoring system first market is...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESFruit Fly Corneas Inspire Bioengineered, Multipurpose Reflective NanocoatingA joint team from Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU, Russia), the University of Geneva, the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology has produced a...Photonics.com 10/20/2020Chromacity, Heriot-Watt Collaborate on Research, Commercialization InitiativesUltrafast laser manufacturer Chromacity and Heriot-Watt University have formalized a five-year partnership, enhancing the collaborators’ existing relationship. Valentin Gapontsev, founder and CEO of IPG Photonics,...Photonics HandbookCharacterizing High-Speed Transmitters: The Emphasis Is on Waveforms: The basic fiber-based communications system consists of a laser transmitter which converts electrical data to intensity-modulated light, a fiber optic cable as short as a few meters or as long as 100-plus kilometers, and a photodetector that converts the information on the light back to an electrical signal. An indicator of how well the entire system performs is a measurement called bit-error-ratio (BER). Acceptable BERs range from one error per billion to one per trillion bits transmitted. It is rare...Photonics HandbookPolarization in Fiber Systems: Squeezing out More Bandwidth: To appease the demand for bandwidth, telecommunication operators are pushed to increase the per-channel data rate of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. As bit rates increase to meet expanding demand, systems have become increasingly sensitive to polarization-related impairments. These include polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical fibers,...Photonics HandbookConnectors and Splices: Correct Alignment Spells Success: Whether the job is splicing fibers together or connecting fibers to system devices, alignment is the key to success. This article explores the many ways to achieve that goal.Just as an electronic connector provides a pluggable connection between electronic circuits, a fiber optic connector provides an optical one. The goal is joining a fiber to a transmitter, receiver or...Photonics HandbookWHITEPAPERSSpecialty Fiber Preforms for Industrial ApplicationsEnabling new laser applications with fused silica fibers.Photonics.com 5/4/2022Novel Micro-optics Solutions Through Monolithic Integration of Microlenses and PrismsSUSS MicroOptics is a global leader in micro-optics technology and manufacturing.
