Point Source Microscope Unveiled

ROCHESTER, NY, May 13, 2009 – For alignment, imaging, autocollimation, non-contact profiling and radiometry, Optical Perspectives Group of Oregon introduced a point source microscope at the Optifab 2009 conference. The product is an optical testing mechanism for various applications such as aligning optical systems, including inspecting optics and measuring the radius of curvature of surfaces because of its sharp perception of image shapes and point image location for aspheric optics and off-axis aspheres. “Alignment really means putting features of a system where the design say’s they’re suppose to be,” said...Read full article

    Glossary
    autocollimation
Technique of projecting an illuminated target at infinity and receiving the target image after reflection from a flat mirror surface.
    metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
    optical surface
A reflecting or refracting surface contained within an optical system.
    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
    radiometry
Ratiometry is a technique used in various scientific fields, particularly in analytical chemistry and biochemistry, to measure concentrations or quantities by comparing the intensity of two different signals or responses. In ratiometry, instead of relying on absolute values of signals, researchers utilize the ratio of two signals or responses obtained from a sample. This ratio is often less affected by factors such as variations in sample volume, instrument settings, or environmental...
    spectrometer
A kind of spectrograph in which some form of detector, other than a photographic film, is used to measure the distribution of radiation in a particular wavelength region.
