BEIJING, June 7, 2021 — Stimulated scattering in supermode microcavities, such as Raman or Brillouin lasers, has proven useful for precision measurements by exploiting the beat note in their lasing spectra. The existence of the beat note (which corresponds to the energy splitting of supermodes) presents a question that researchers have wrestled with for decades: Are supermode microcavity lasers single- or dual-mode?
