Researchers Fool Autonomous Vehicles to Pinpoint Security Risks

DURHAM, N.C., March 30, 2022 — Tests showed that an attack strategy demonstrated by Duke University researchers fooled industry-standard autonomous vehicle sensors into believing nearby objects are closer and/or farther than they appear, without being detected. The work suggests that adding optical 3D capabilities, or the ability to share data with nearby cars, may be necessary to fully protect autonomous vehicles from attacks.
