SMI Receives Funding for Optical Coatings

The US Air Force/Missile Defense Agency will provide Phase II funding to Structured Materials Industries Inc. of Piscataway, N.J., for continued development of a metallorganic chemical vapor deposition tool to produce very low absorption optical coatings. During Phase I, the company demonstrated reflector coatings for 1.06-µm radiation. The next goals are to scale the technology to coat 0.5-m components and, eventually, to produce the coatings on high-energy laser mirrors up to 1.5 m in size.Read full article
