SPIE Photonics West Wrap-up

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 3, 2012 — Enthusiasm was high, and there was synergy between conference rooms and the exhibit floor at SPIE Photonics West 2012, held Jan. 21-26 at the Moscone Center. The premier international photonics conference and exhibit, which had just more than 20,000 registered attendees, featured more technical papers, exhibiting companies, professional development courses, exhibit visitors and even more networking than last year. “It’s very impressive,” said Matthias Machnig, minister of economy, labor and technology for the German federal state of Thuringen. Machnig was at...Read full article

    optoelectronics
Optoelectronics is a branch of electronics that focuses on the study and application of devices and systems that use light and its interactions with different materials. The term "optoelectronics" is a combination of "optics" and "electronics," reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of this field. Optoelectronic devices convert electrical signals into optical signals or vice versa, making them crucial in various technologies. Some key components and applications of optoelectronics include: ...
    superresolution
Superresolution refers to the enhancement or improvement of the spatial resolution beyond the conventional limits imposed by the diffraction of light. In the context of imaging, it is a set of techniques and algorithms that aim to achieve higher resolution images than what is traditionally possible using standard imaging systems. In conventional optical microscopy, the resolution is limited by the diffraction of light, a phenomenon described by Ernst Abbe's diffraction limit. This limit sets a...
    ultraviolet microscopy
The study and photographing of microscope specimens in ultraviolet light; using an optical microscope containing fluorite and quartz components to efficiently image wavelengths much shorter than the visible spectrum. The short wavelength operation provides high-resolution study resulting in high contrast observation and detection of semiconductor surface imperfections below the diffraction limit of visible light.
