Researchers from the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) have developed an on-chip frequency shift mechanism that could contribute to the next generation of photonic technologies.     frequency
    With reference to electromagnetic radiation, the number of crests of waves that pass a fixed point in a given unit of time, in light or other wave motion. Expressed in hertz or cycles per second.
    color
    The attribute of visual experience that can be described as having quantitatively specifiable dimensions of hue, saturation, and brightness or lightness. The visual experience, not including aspects of extent (e.g., size, shape, texture, etc.) and duration (e.g., movement, flicker, etc.).
