Schott Glas Provides Mirror Mount for Telescope

Schott Glas AG of Mainz, Germany, has contracted to supply a mirror holder for a prototype telescope. The mounted system is made of the company's Zerodur glass ceramic product. The telescope design will be used in the asteroid observatory called PanStarrs (Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System). The system, which will include four wide-angle telescopes, will enable astronomers to calculate the flight paths of asteroids and comets, representing a possible early warning system. It is being established as part of the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy.Read full article
