Single photons retain character as wavelength changes

The wavelength of a single photon can be changed significantly without destroying its fundamental quantum character, researchers have reported. This finding has application in the developing field of quantum information science, which includes quantum computing, communication and cryptography.     nano
    An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale.
