Spatial Light Modulation Gauges How Lenses Slow Progress of Myopia

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is one of the most common ocular disorders worldwide and a leading cause of visual impairment in children. Although specialized eyeglass lenses have been clinically tested to treat myopia progression, an in-depth optical characterization of the lenses has not yet been performed. Researchers from the ZEISS Vision Science Lab at the University of Tübingen and the University of Murcia undertook a comprehensive characterization to investigate the properties of spectacle lenses designed to slow the progress of myopia. The results of their study could help...Read full article

    spatial light modulator
A spatial light modulator (SLM) is an optical device that modulates or manipulates the amplitude, phase, or polarization of light in two dimensions, typically in the form of an array. SLMs are versatile tools used in various optical applications, including adaptive optics, optical signal processing, holography, and imaging. There are different types of SLMs, each with its own operating principle: Liquid crystal spatial light modulators (LC-SLM): These SLMs use liquid crystal technology to...
    lens
A lens is a transparent optical device that focuses or diverges light, allowing it to pass through and form an image. Lenses are commonly used in optical systems, such as cameras, telescopes, microscopes, eyeglasses, and other vision-correcting devices. They are typically made of glass or other transparent materials with specific optical properties. There are two primary types of lenses: Convex lens (converging lens): This type of lens is thicker at the center than at the edges....
