There is no doubt that the photonics market is feeling the effects of the downturn in the worldwide economy. But in terms of wages, the results from our annual survey show that it may not be as bad as everyone thinks. There may be a market shift in certain salaries, but other pay levels in the industry have remained constant or have even seen increases.The median salary for the photonics industry experienced a dip of 3 percent, but some jobs saw increases. Senior management, consultants and educators showed declines of 9, 23 and 29 percent, respectively.
