Trumpf Laser Marking Systems AG has opened a 35,500-sq-ft production facility in Switzerland to accommodate the 70 percent increase in orders for marking lasers over the previous year. The $17.8 million building doubles the company’s current production floor space, enabling all work to be carried out on a single level for easier procedure control and improved manufacturing and logistics processes, the company said. When planning and erecting the facility, which took just over a year to complete, great attention was given to sustainability. Renewable materials such as wood were selected, and only resources available in abundant quantities — including gravel, limestone and glass — were used in construction. The building also is distinguished by the ergonomically correct design of its workplaces, the company said. “Grüsch is a major center for the development and production of solid-state lasers,” said Peter Leibinger, vice chair of the Trumpf GmbH + Co. KG and president of the Laser Technology and Electronics Div. “The 10,000 marking lasers already in place give us good reason to look optimistically into the future.
