LiFi technology company pureLiFi entered into a $4.2 million agreement with the U.S. Army Europe and Africa to supply its secure optical wireless communication system Kitefin. The system uses LiFi, an alternative to radio technologies such as WiFi, for secure data transmission without radio frequencies. The deal is reported to be the largest scale deployment of LiFi technology to date. The U.S. Army will begin deploying Kitefin LiFi devices in 2021. Courtesy of pureLiFi. The technology provides certain advantages over conventional technologies such as cellular WiFi and Bluetooth,...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESams OSRAM Sells Traxon Technologies: Week in Brief: 05/20/22Optical technology company ams OSRAM reached an agreement to sell its Traxon Technologies business to Prosperity Group, a privately owned lighting company based in Hong Kong. This article explores the many ways to achieve that goal.Just as an electronic connector provides a pluggable connection between electronic circuits, a fiber optic connector provides an optical one. The goal is joining a fiber to a transmitter, receiver or...Photonics HandbookImage Intensification: The Technology of Night Vision: Through succeeding generations, image intensifying devices have brought vision to the dark of night.Image intensification, the basis of night vision, is a complex conversion of energy particles that occurs within a vacuum tube.
