ESPOO, Finland, May 16, 2018 — Scientists combined organic dye material with metallic nanostructures (gold nanoparticles) to demonstrate ultrafast lasing with short, rapidly appearing laser pulses. Such ultrafast modulation speeds could be utilized in sensors and optical switches. The organic dye nanoparticle-array laser demonstrated more than a 100-GHz modulation bandwidth. Researchers showed that the lasing modulation speed could be tuned by the array parameters. For its experiments, the team from Aalto University placed gold nanoparticles on glass and immersed the samples in an organic, light-emitting...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESModel Guides Precise Formation of Plasmonic ComponentsUsing a real-time mathematical analysis model developed at ITMO University, scientists will now be able to manipulate the process of creating photonic and plasmonic components to produce the precise...Photonics.com 7/22/2020Scientists Image the Ultrafast Motion of a Rotating MoleculeScientists at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) and the Max Born Institute (MBI) have used precisely tuned pulses of laser light to film the ultrafast rotation of a molecule.
