BRISBANE, Australia, Dec. 4, 2017 — A technique has been developed that modulates visible colored light, enabling it to control the reactions of chemical coupling agents needed to make industrial materials. Researchers showed that the modulation of the reactivity by light could be reversed, and that individually addressable reaction pathways could be repeatedly accessed. This technique could enable use of visible rather than UV light for future industrial applications in chemical and advanced manufacturing. Researchers from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Ghent...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaARTICLESHybrid Approach Enables Ultralow-Loss Integrated Photonics for LidarResearchers at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Purdue University demonstrated a hybrid approach to on-chip acousto-optic modulation by combining piezoelectric...Vision Spectra Autumn 2020 IssueUsing Microwave Metamaterials in Machine Learning Speeds Object RecognitionA new approach to object identification, developed by researchers at Duke University and the Institut de Physique de Nice (INPHYNI), enables joint learning of optimal measurement strategies and a...Vision Spectra Spring 2020 IssueDynamic Speckle Patterns Detect Fires in Harsh EnvironmentsA multi-institutional group of researchers from Denmark and Norway has developed a laser-based system that can detect fires in challenging environments.
