Zecotek: Keys to Rapid Success

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 8, 2008 – For Zecotek Photonics, the key to its rapid success doesn't lie in cutting-edge technology, an impressive slate of products, a talented team of researchers or strong industry partnerships. The key is having all four. Formerly known as Zecotek Medical Systems, the company manufactures crystals, photodetectors, lasers, imaging and 3-D display technologies for medical, biotechnology, industrial, nanotechnology and atomic/molecular science applications. It was founded five years ago by Dr. A.F. Zerrouk in an effort to fund the final phase of research and development of an array of photonics...Read full article

    Glossary
    mass spectrometry
An instrumental technique that utilizes the mass-to-charge ratio of charged particles as recorded from a mass spectrometer in order to determine the mass of a particle as well as the chemical makeup, or elemental ionic composition of a given sample or molecule.
    nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
    scintillation
    1. The variation in intensity of a light beam as it travels through the atmosphere. 2. In radiation physics, a light flash formed by an ionizing event in a phosphor; a flash formed when rapidly traveling particles, such as alpha particles, travel through matter. 3. In lasers, rapid changes in the levels of irradiance in the cross section of a laser beam.
