Zeiss Acquires Historical Microscope Built by Company Founder

JENA, Germany, Aug. 12, 2016 — The archives of Carl Zeiss AG have acquired a historical microscope, said to have been made in 1850 by its founder Carl Zeiss. This years marks Zeiss' 200th birthday. Acquired at a pharmacy closeout sale by Manfred Eichel of Lahntal, Germany, the microscope was purchased by Zeiss.     An instrument consisting essentially of a tube 160 mm long, with an objective lens at the distant end and an eyepiece at the near end. The objective forms a real aerial image of the object in the focal plane of the eyepiece where it is observed by the eye.
