OLED microdisplay technology provider eMagin Corp. has created an in-house design team with five engineers, each of whom has had experience working on the silicon backplane for the company’s newest organic LED (OLED) microdisplay designs, including the SXGA and the TATRC WUXGA, as well as two customer products designed in 2009 and 2010. The team will strengthen the company’s ability to more rapidly and cost-effectively develop new generations of its advanced microdisplays, while also protecting its intellectual property and technology know-how, said Andrew Sculley, president and CEO. “The company is experiencing a significant increase in demand for its proprietary OLED microdisplays and is expanding its product line to address this growing demand,” Sculley said. “These research contracts and contract extensions constitute a large percentage of our total revenues, and the formation of an in-house design team is a critical step toward the achievement of our ambitious growth objectives.” The company integrates high-resolution OLED microdisplays with magnifying optics to deliver virtual images comparable to large-screen computer and TV displays in portable, low-power, lightweight personal displays.
