SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing Showcases Mission-Critical Innovations in the Sunshine State

Every year, SPIE brings industry leaders together to discuss advancements and challenges in detector and sensing systems for mission-critical operations. This year the Defense + Commercial Sensing (DCS) show returns to Orlando, Florida, hosting conferences and exhibitors from April 13-17. The five-day event will feature more than 250 exhibitors, run hundreds of technical presentations, and offer courses with technical training, all at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center.

The Symposium Plenary on Monday evening, April 14, will feature Brigadier General, Jason Bartolomei with the Air Force Research Lab, who will detail the challenges posed by the relentless pace of technological change in an increasingly aggressive environment. These challenges will highlight the need for sustained research. Bartolomei will detail aspects of the breakthrough work coming from the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Preceding the symposium plenary event, symposia on space sensing technologies and the demands and crossover advancements driving research in this field launch the five-day program. David Ellis, director of strategic development with BAE Systems, will moderate a discussion featuring a panel of experts including Gabe Mounce, director of the Tech Engagement Office for the Air Force Research Lab; Michael Foster, chief data engineer at Raft; Kevin Flesher, senior director for Space ISR Solutions; Tarek Elgohary, an associate professor at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Central Florida; and Mark Keremedjiev, the mission director for Tanager at Planet Labs PBC.

The hundreds of technical presentations planned will be divided into four main conference tracks: materials and devices, imaging and analytics, advanced sensing and imaging, and next-generation sensor systems and applications. Trending and emerging technologies will cover a wide array of detector and sensor systems across security and defense including infrared, laser systems, spectral imaging, radar, lidar, autonomous systems, and more.

Renowned experts from industry-leading companies will lead more than 20 courses. Attendees can expand their knowledge and skill in areas such as optomechanics, electro-optical imaging systems, deep learning, and infrared sensing. Along with keynote presentations and technical demonstrations offering industry perspectives on the state and future of defense and commercial sensing, registrants can benefit from interactive sessions designed to encourage networking and promote the sharing of knowledge. Events to connect colleagues will run throughout the week, with select socials focusing on inclusion and equity.

SPIE DCS 2025 runs April 13-17 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. A slate of courses will be available on opening day, Sunday, April 13. The exhibition floor will be open April 15-17.

Registration and additional event information is available at SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing.
