Sensata Acquires Elastic M2M: Week in Brief: 02/25/22

Olympus has opened another discovery center, this one at the University of Montreal’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Brain and Learning. The facility will provide researchers access to advanced microscopy tools to study the neural basis of brain development, functions, neuroplasticity, learning processes, and the factors that disrupt and promote learning at different ages. The lab features a FLUOVIEW VF3000 upright confocal laser scanning microscope, a PhaseView Alpha3 light-sheet microscope, as well as classic inverted and electrophysiology microscopes.

CHICAGO — AKHAN Semiconductor has raised $20 million of committed capital led by strategic financial partners. In addition to the funding round, AKHAN also announced the hiring of Craig Mitchell as CEO and John Thode as COO/president. The financing and executive team appointments will help to bring the company’s Miraj Diamond Technology to market.

CAMBRIDGE, England — Microdisplay technology company Porotech, secured $20 million in series A investment to accelerate global expansion and mass production of its micro-LED products. The funding is intended to ensure that the company keeps pace with growing demand. The round was led by Ameba Capital and includes previous investor Speedinvest.

SWINDON, England — Sensata Technologies has acquired artificial intelligence company Elastic M2M. Elastic M2M primarily serves telematics service providers and resellers who use the company’s cloud platform and analytics capabilities to deliver sensor-based operational insights to end users. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

HOUSTON — Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Ayar Labs established a multiyear strategic collaboration on the development of silicon photonics solutions based on optical I/O technology. Additionally, HPE’s venture arm, Hewlett Packard Pathfinder, has made strategic investment in Ayar Labs to accelerate the development and adoption of joint future technologies. As part of the collaboration, HPE and Ayar Labs will partner on photonics research and commercial development, building a joint ecosystem of solution providers, and customer engagements.
