ST. ASAPH, North Wales, April 12, 2010 — The developer of novel materials and processes that create high-resolution microelectronic components directly onto thin flexible printed electronics, SmartKem Ltd. announced it has appointed Russell Griffiths to the position of senior scientist.

In his new position, Griffiths will lead the company’s technical staff to penetrate the growing printed electronics industry. The appointment will enable the company to create practical solutions that will replace standard printing techniques for the creation of flexible electronic devices.

His main responsibilities will involve the design and synthesis of novel organic compounds, including semiconductors and dielectrics for use in microelectronic devices. Additionally, he will lead a program to enhance the chemical properties of the aforementioned materials using novel laser patterning techniques for high resolution, high performance plastic and printed electronics devices.

He will also be responsible for the company’s research projects, interacting with collaborating companies and academic institutions, and preparing intellectual property submissions.

Griffiths joins the company after nine years of experience in senior positions at Merck Chemicals Ltd., SAFC Pharma, Oxford Advanced Surfaces and Erigal.
