Smart Glass Sets Sights on Smart Homes

JENA, Germany, Feb. 11, 2019 — Integrated, invisible microstructured optics developed by ZEISS GmbH have made it possible to utilize transparent glass or plastic in never-before-seen applications.

The technology enables innovations such as gesture recognition or eye tracking without any visible optical systems. The company also intends to use the glass in smart homes through glass window panes that can assume monitoring tasks both inside and outside the home. The optics are also capable of filtering sunlight, measuring the temperature, and displaying a host of information.

Uses are also planned for augmented reality and the automotive industry.
