Spectra Science, LAVATEC Demo LaserTrack System

PROVIDENCE, RI, April 30 -- Spectra Science Corp. (SSC) and LAVATEC Inc. have demonstrated a prototype version of their LaserTrack soiled line identification system to Tartan Textile Services of Houston. The system--a joint development between SSC and LAVATEC--is designed to automate the identification, counting, and classification of soiled flat linen products.
The demonstration was the first integration of SSC's laser reader to the high-speed master sorting module and conveyor manufactured by LAVATEC. The laser reader is a laser-based unit that excites and then reads emitted light signals generated by the LaserThread component sewn into flat linen products, part of a new line of smart products also being tested by SSC and LAVATEC. The companies expect the LaserTrack system to bring increased automation and resulting cost saving opportunities to laundry operations.
