WASHINGTON, June 25, 2012 — Former Strategies Unlimited Director Tom Hausken has joined the staff of The Optical Society (OSA) as senior adviser of engineering and applications, the society announced Monday.

Hausken will support a number of OSA's industry-focused activities, including the programs of the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association (OIDA), which became a division of OSA in January 2011 (See: OSA, OIDA Announce Strategic Partnership).

"Tom brings a tremendous amount of experience from the optoelectronics sector and a unique skill set that will help OSA increase our portfolio of programs for the engineering and applications communities," said Elizabeth Rogan, OSA CEO. "I am looking forward to working with Tom as we continue to further strengthen our business and industry programs."

Hausken, who most recently served as the principal and director of Strategies Unlimited in Mountain View, Calif., has more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor and optoelectronics industries, spanning device and materials research, product development, and technology and market analysis.

He joined the Strategies Unlimited staff in 1999 and specialized in studies of optical and electronic components, including active and passive components for optical networks and image sensors, according to the company's website. Before that, he worked as a program manager for OIDA, as a technology policy analyst at the US Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, as an optoelectronics researcher with Philips and Alcatel Alsthom Research, and as a lab manager at Texas Instruments.

He will continue to be based in Mountain View.
