Strickland Named Inaugural Fellow at CAP: People in the News: 07/27/22

OTTAWA, Ontario, July 27, 2022 — Nobel laureate Donna Strickland was named as one of the first fellows of the Canadian Association of Physicists. Strickland is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. She is a co-recipient of the 2018 Nobel Prize in physics for the development of chirped pulse amplification, which amplifies beams without damaging the amplifier.

BOSTON — Meta-optics company Metalenz appointed Lars Johnson vice president of product, marketing, and business development, and Hao Zhou as head of sales in Asia. Johnson formerly served as vice president of mobile marketing at Skyworks Solutions. Hao founded the company Qtech and served as general manager.

A metalens, short for "metasurface lens," is a type of optical lens that uses nanostructured materials to manipulate light at a subwavelength scale.
