Synopsys Acquires RSoft
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 9, 2012 — Synopsys Inc. has completed the acquisition of the privately held RSoft Design Group Inc. of Ossining, N.Y., a photonics design and simulation software provider. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Synposys started its expansion into the optics market in 2010 with the purchase of Optical Research Associates. (See: Synopsys Acquires Optical Research Associates)
The acquisition will combine Synopsys’ imaging and illumination design products with RSoft’s photonics design products to provide a more complete set of optical solutions to the companies’ current customers and to support new technologies, applications and markets as they emerge.
RSoft’s software is used to design and optimize optical telecommunications components and to simulate complete telecommunications systems and networks.
“Synopsys’ strategy is twofold: continued leadership in EDA [electronic design automation] while expanding our total addressable market into adjacent technologies, including optical design,” said Howard Ko, senior vice president and general manager of Synopsys’ Silicon Engineering Group.
