TeraXion, Canadian Fab Center Join Forces

QUEBEC CITY and OTTAWA, Ontario, Sept. 12, 2013 — TeraXion Inc. and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) announced that they are partnering to develop and fabricate TeraXion's new modular products.

The company's next-generation indium phosphide high-speed modulators are used in coherent transmission systems at 100 Gb/s and beyond. Work under the agreement will take place at NRC's Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre in Ottawa.

"The new modulator concept will use a proprietary design to achieve world-record low-power consumption as well as reaching very high modulation speeds necessary for 100 gigabits per second and above transmission," said Ian Woods, TeraXion's InP Platform vice president. "In addition, the form factor of this modulator will be 10 times smaller than the competing technologies available today."

Among the catalysts for the partnership are the close geographical location of both parties and the strong photonic ecosystem in the Ottawa region, the new partners said.

TeraXion designs, manufactures and markets optical components and modules for high-speed fiber optic transmission networks, fiber lasers and optical sensing applications. The fabrication center provides engineering and manufacturing services, commercial-grade prototyping and pilot-run production facilities for III-V semiconductors.
