Tescan Acquires FemtoInnovations, Launches Laser Technology Business Unit
Imaging systems company Tescan Group has acquired FemtoInnovations, a developer of ultrafast laser technologies. Through the combination, Tescan has launched a dedicated laser technology business unit, headquartered at the University of Connecticut (UConn) Tech Park. The unit expands Tescan’s correlative and multimodal portfolio for semiconductor, biomedical device manufacturing, and advanced research markets.
FemtoInnovations brings nanomachining solutions, imaging tools, and image analysis software to TESCAN laser systems. The company has expertise in lasers, microscopy, spectroscopy, AI, and software development.
Tescan will create a dedicated laser technology business unit headquartered at the University of Connecticut Tech Park Courtesy of Tescan.
“By combining ultrafast laser micromachining with our leading imaging and analysis platforms, we’re enabling customers to move faster from problem to insight across failure analysis, sample preparation, R&D, and advanced manufacturing,” said Jean-Charles Chen, CEO of Tescan Group.
The newly formed unit will work closely with Tescan’s electron microscopy and micro-CT business units to deliver integrated workflows beginning in 2026.
Additionally, a FemtoInnovations Laser Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering (FLAME) center will also be established at the Innovation Partnership Building of UConn Tech Park. The center aims to fast-track R&D, applications, and workflow development.
